Ad Creative Performance Metrics

Creative metrics should help explain how a message contributes to business results. Read attention, response and conversion signals together instead of ranking assets by one engagement number.

Use the right measurement layer

Start with the campaign objective and the action the creative asks for. A demonstration aimed at helping buyers understand a product serves a different role from a direct booking offer.

  • Attention: relevant video-start and watch measures, with their definitions stated.
  • Response: link clicks, landing-page visits and meaningful engagement.
  • Conversion: qualified enquiries or purchases linked to the agreed event.
  • Economics: media cost per useful outcome plus the production effort required.

Compare like with like

An illustrative video may generate more views while a static offer produces more qualified enquiries. Neither is automatically the better asset without knowing the intended goal. Compare exposure, audience, placements, offer and period. A version that received most of the budget had more opportunity to accumulate results, so raw counts alone are a poor ranking method.

Write a learning statement

Use “the product demonstration produced more qualified enquiries in this test” rather than “video always wins.” Record the supporting numbers and the limitations. Check for worse downstream outcomes, including unsuitable leads or returns. Keep the creative ID and message angle beside the results so the next brief can reuse a useful insight without confusing it with a universal rule.
