AI UGC vs Human UGC: Choosing the Right Format
Compare what the viewer is being shown
A synthetic presenter can deliver an approved explanation. A real customer can describe an experience they actually had. An AI-presented script should not be framed as a customer testimonial or personal experience that never occurred.
- AI presenter: useful for controlled scripts, explainers and planned versioning.
- Human creator: useful when authentic use, personality or lived experience is central.
- Product footage: valuable when viewers need to see the real item or workflow.
- Hybrid: combine an accurately labelled presenter with genuine product demonstrations.
Choose by the job
For an illustrative software explainer, a synthetic presenter can introduce a feature while actual screen recordings show it working. For an account of how a customer used a product, use a real authorised customer statement. Do not fabricate a person, review or before-and-after outcome to make an ad appear more credible.
Plan approval and rights
Agree the script, voice, likeness permissions, source assets and disclosure approach before production. Confirm usage rights and how future edits will be handled. Review whether the final video could mislead someone about who is speaking or what has been demonstrated. Efficiency in production is useful only when the message remains accurate and suitable for the platform and target market.
