Google Ads for Local Businesses
Make geographic intent explicit
Write down towns, areas or travel boundaries that the business actually serves. Review location options and observed user locations after launch; a phrase containing a city name does not by itself guarantee every enquiry comes from that city.
- List the services you want enquiries for and those you do not provide.
- Match ads to relevant service pages with contact and availability information.
- Align call handling and campaign schedules with the actual response process.
- Define qualified outcomes, such as a suitable appointment or accepted quotation request.
Use a local test brief
For an illustrative repair business: advertise one repair category within the agreed service boundary, explain the booking process and route enquiries to the person who can schedule work. Use a dedicated confirmation event for completed requests and treat a call-button click as a separate signal. Avoid claims such as “open now” or “same-day service” unless the business can fulfil them.
Review the full enquiry path
Compare search terms, locations, calls, form submissions and accepted jobs. Ask why enquiries were declined: distance, unavailable service, price mismatch or missed contact. Feed those findings into the next targeting and copy revision. Scale only when the team can handle the extra work and the resulting jobs justify acquisition costs. Local visibility is valuable when it creates serviceable demand.
